Harry Potter: Gryffindor Traits, Explained

Published

on

By

Everyone wants to be a Gryffindor, but what is it that makes someone a member of the house through and through?

Those who love the Harry Potter series also probably love the concept of various houses for the students of Hogwarts. Most people who’ve delved into the series at all have taken a test of their own at some point to see which Hogwarts house they’d belong to. One of the key houses that people hope to be a part of thanks to the core cast of the Harry Potter series is Gryffindor.

The house that’s dripping with red, gold, and lion decor is one of the most striking in the entire series. Some of the most famous witches and wizards in the Harry Potter universe called Gryffindor their home at one point, and things were no different when Harry and his friends entered the school. Some might wonder what it is that makes someone the perfect Gryffindor, but luckily, there are plenty of key traits that those in Gryffindor house tend to exhibit in their daily life.

What Are The Strengths Of Gryffindors?

While the historic strengths of a Gryffindor will show themselves differently through the actions of different characters, there are a few that are held in the highest regard. Some of the most important traits that make someone a true Gryffindor are their bravery, their sense of honor, their loyalty to those around them, and their ability to be bold regardless of the situation they find themselves in. Moments in which key members of the Gryffindor house demonstrate these traits will no doubt have already come to mind.

Bravery is one of the most revered traits in the entire series, and the core trio of the films demonstrates it time and time again. The fact that Harry Potter, a teenager who hasn’t even completed a full magical education, is happy to go up against the most feared dark wizard of all time Lord Voldemort demonstrates more bravery than most people could dream of. In Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone, Ron demonstrates his courage and his immediately-forgotten-about brilliance when the trio is forced into a deadly game of wizards’ chess. Loyalty is additionally demonstrated, though primarily through Harry, when it comes to trusting in Dumbledore and the Order Of The Phoenix to build an army and battle against Voldemort.

Gryffindors also value honor, something that becomes clear in the way that the students of Hogwarts react when it is learned that Harry’s name was chosen by the Goblet of Fire for the Triwizard Tournament. Even Harry’s own best friend reacts with anger that his friend would somehow cheat to get his name into a tournament for some more glory. With honor also comes boldness, something that is harder to come by, but something that is still valued. Realistically, Neville Longbottom demonstrates a lot of boldness throughout the series, being willing to constantly take risks even if it means being at odds with his friends or the most vile wizard of all time.

What Are The Weaknesses Of Gryffindors?

While Gryffindors may seem like the ultimate Hogwarts house, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In reality, the famous Gryffindor house is filled with students with many of the same key weaknesses that present in some major ways. Some of the biggest weaknesses include recklessness, being self-righteous, having short tempers, and having a tendency to always want to be the hero.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Gryffindors can be fairly reckless. Sometimes, recklessness is required when it comes to bravery, especially for younger people. Many Gryffindors throughout the series throw themselves into danger without fully grasping how dangerous a situation is, something that is on display in Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix when Harry and his friends head to the Ministry of Magic and end up battling Death Eaters. It’s also possible that some might just chalk up the main heroes being short-tempered to teenage hormones, and that might be fair, but adults like Minerva McGonagall and Albus Dumbledore both demonstrate similar short tempers on rare occasions. A little bit of fire is just another thing that makes a witch or wizard a strong Gryffindor, even if it can be a shortcoming.

It is easy to view Gryffindors are overly heroic people, being willing to put themselves in harm’s way when their presence may not be required. Neville’s boldness puts him in contact with being overly heroic when it isn’t necessary as seen in Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone. Neville attempts to stop his friends from sneaking out past the curfew and ends up petrified for his troubles. Many of the other houses also take issue and view Gryffindors as self-righteous people. Everyone’s favorites Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are actually great examples of this very thing as both are often at odds for believing the other is completely correct when both parties are at fault for something.

Who Are The Most Famous Gryffindors?

Across the long history of Gryffindor House, there have been countless famous members of the house, though only a few of them have any actual relevance to the Harry Potter series. Fans of the series will know that Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley are three of the most famous members in the story. Following them, famous faculty members like Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Hagrid, and even house ghost Nearly-Headless Nick were all members of Gryffindor at one time. It is also worth mentioning the founder of Gryffindor itself, Godric Gryffindor.

Harry Potter and his friends, Ron and Hermione, become rather famous Gryffindors thanks to them leading the fight against Voldemort’s second rise to power. All three are either viewed as bright wizards or important parts of Gryffindor during their time at Hogwarts. Obviously, Harry Potter is most famous for being the boy who lived, but he and his friends become famous all over again for being the ones who stood against and defeated Voldemort at the Battle of Hogwarts. Notably, both Harry and Ron’s parents were Gryffindors, and so were many of their close friends.

Albus Dumbledore might actually be the most famous in-universe and he just so happened to be a Gryffindor like other already-mentioned members of Hogwarts staff. He was such a promising and powerful wizard that he nearly turned down a much darker path but instead rose up to challenge the great evil of his era in Gellert Grindelwald. He would go on to become Headmaster of Hogwarts where he could oversee Harry’s time at the school and prepare him for his turn to take on the greatest evil the wizarding world has ever known in Voldemort.

Lies of P’s True Ending Breaks Its Fairy Tale Mold

Published

on

By

Lies of P players have the opportunity to unlock three unique endings, and the true ending requires them to shatter its fairy tale mold.

Lies of P adapts Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio for the Soulslike genre, infusing it with the dark and twisted elements popularized by titles such as Bloodborne. The title does an excellent job of transforming the original tale’s characters and locations, with even minor characters paying homage to their role in Collodi’s classic. At the heart of Lies of P is the relationship between P, the title’s Pinocchio, and Geppetto, who created P with the unique ability to lie. In their initial playthrough, fans may assume that following the original tale’s example will result in Lies of P‘s best ending. However, the title quickly teaches players that lying has its benefits. To unlock Lies of P‘s best ending, players must go against the Pinocchio narrative, resulting in a conclusion that breaks its fairy tale mold.

Lies of P follows P as he navigates the city of Krat, and attempts to put an end to a mysterious event called the Puppet Frenzy. For an unknown reason, all of Geppetto’s puppet creations have viciously attacked the city’s human population, leading the master alchemist to create P in the hopes of ending their assault. At the title’s start, P is awakened by Sophia, Lies of P‘s Blue Fairy, and tasked with rescuing Geppetto. However, to do so he must use the distinctly human ability to lie, an ability that he alone possesses. While fans know Pinocchio as a cautionary tale about lying, Lies of P sees the titular puppet face dynamic situations in which lying is both a kindness and a means of survival.

Lies of P’s Best Ending Requires P to Find His Humanity

Lies of P‘s Geppetto created P to end the Puppet Frenzy. However, the journey towards that goal sees the puppet fundamentally changed through a series of diverse interactions. While exploring Krat, P happens upon humans struck with a mysterious Petrification disease, who end up asking for his assistance. Completing these requests often forces P into a final decision in which he must lie to the quest-giver or tell them an unfortunate truth. In order to unlock the best ending, P must lie every single time.

What’s interesting about these interactions is that the majority of the titular lies of P see the puppet showing distinctly human mercy to an ailing character. Examples include telling a man that his deceased wife left a final message in which she professed her love and telling a blind woman that the doll she believes to be her baby is truly adorable. In addition to lying, the best ending requires P to mercifully end an ailing Sophia’s life and absorb her Ergo, rather than let her become a monster, listen to all records in the game, and give Geppetto a painting of his son. Making these decisions has an immediate effect on P, resulting in the message that his “springs are reacting”, seemingly transforming the puppet into something altogether different.

Lies of P’s Final Act Shatters its Fairy Tale Concepts

Upon defeating Lies of P‘s mandatory final boss, P reunites with Geppetto in a location called “Under the Abyss”. Geppetto reveals that he is not planning to make P a real boy. Rather, he asks P to give up his life so that his heart can be used to revive Geppetto’s dead son Carlo. In order to unlock the best ending, P must refuse, leading Geppetto to unleash Lies of P‘s Nameless Puppet and attempt to take the heart by force. In a twist, Geppetto sacrifices himself before the Nameless Puppet can destroy P’s heart, and apologizes for deceiving the puppet and putting him through the title’s hardships.

With Geppetto dead, P is free to create his own future. However, the puppet now possesses a significant amount of humanity and has learned through his journey to care for others. In one final act of service, P brings Sophia back to life, using her Ergo to revive her consciousness in a puppet doppelganger. As she awakens, it is revealed that the act came with a significant price, as the final shot reveals a lifeless P slumped in puppet Sophia’s arms. While P never becomes a real boy, he demonstrates a complex humanity, rejecting the lessons of the original novel and shattering its fairy tale conventions.

Lies of P is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Snowbreak Containment Zone: Haru Absconditus Guide

Published

on

By

Snowbreak has released the game’s newest character, orange-tier kinetic pistol unit Haru Absconditus.

September brought along Snowbreak Containment Zone‘s second update, Fogbound Dream, and in it comes the newest orange-tier operative for players to obtain from the gacha system. Haru Absconditus is a kinetic pistol unit, and fans will recognize her as a higher rarity version of purple-tier operative Haru “The Ace.” This guide will cover how this unit works and how to properly equip her in order to get the most out of her.

An important note to begin, Haru Absconditus is a limited orange-tier unit, and as such will only be available in a limited gacha banner for around a month. It is likely that Haru Absconditus will be rerun in the future, but only the developers know this information for sure. Running alongside her is the update’s titular event Fogbound Dream, and this event will be very important for players who are attempting to build Haru Absconditus.

Understanding Haru Absconditus’ Kit

As previously mentioned, Haru Absconditus is a kinetic unit that uses pistol-type weapons. One of the most prominent aspects of her kit and what she will largely be built around is her standard skill called “Compensatory Justice.” When used, her skill will attack with 3 “Faithful Slices” in front of her, hitting up to 5 enemies with kinetic DMG. Haru Absconditus’ skill can also pass through obstacles in the way, making it useful against enemies who are in cover or otherwise unable to be hit. If her relevant neural skills are leveled, defeating an enemy with “Compensatory Justice” will raise Haru Absconditus’ movement speed, restore some of the skill’s charge, and make it so that her skill will not consume S-Energy for a few seconds.

When off-field, Haru Absconditus will be able to use her support skill “Swift Execution.” When used, the support skill will hit targets with “Evidentiary Slash” 3 times, followed by a higher-power slash known as an “Executionary Slash.” All the slashes that make up Haru Absconditus’ support skill deal kinetic DMG. “Executionary Slash” in particular can be made even more powerful by leveling Haru Absconditus’ two middle neural skills, which will decrease her support skill cooldown upon hitting enemies with “Executionary Slash” as well as make the slash stun targets respectively.

When she has enough energy, players can unleash Haru Absconditus’ ultimate skill known as “Triumphant Body, Victorious Blade.” This skill will make Haru violently slash at enemies in front of her dealing kinetic DMG, as well as make her enter the “Body as Blade” state. In the “Body as Blade” state, Haru Absconditus will have a greatly reduced standard skill cooldown, an additional “Faithful Slice” added to her standard skill, and her standard skill will not cost S-Energy to use. Players should level relevant neural skills in order to prolong the amount of time that Haru Absconditus can remain in this state.

Finally, Haru Absconditus has a passive known as “Piercing Oath 2 – Deiwos Alignment.” This passive skill makes it so that when Haru deals damage to an enemy that does not possess a shield and has HP currently lower than a percentage of Haru’s HP, that enemy will take additional true damage equal to its current HP. This passive makes Haru Absconditus extremely efficient at finishing off additional mobs that have already been damaged, especially when used in co-op stages.

Are Haru Absconditus Duplicates Worth Pulling or Grinding?

Now that players have a better understanding of how Haru Absconditus’ kit works, this guide will briefly touch on duplicates and how they will affect the unit. It is important to note that in Snowbreak: Containment Zone, duplicate units are not unique to the gacha and can be obtained via grinding. That being said, obtaining them from the gacha is still an option and it will make the process faster. Players should spend responsibly if they choose to pull the duplicates from the gacha system.

Snowbreak: Containment Zone has an interesting duplicate mechanic where each collection of character fragments will unlock a small passive buff, such as a 0.5% HP or attack boost. Doing this enough times will unlock a “manifestion,” of which players can unlock five manifestations per character. The table below covers Haru Absconditus’ manifestions and how they affect the unit.

Manifestation Name Effect
Battleground Dominance When unlocked, Haru Absconditus will be able to use her ultimate skill without consuming U-Energy every 600 seconds.
Frenzied Rage This manifestation increases Haru Absconditus’ attack whenever she uses a skill, and triggering it again will reset the duration.
Iron Law of Victory Haru Absconditus gains the “Iron Body” effect when using a skill if this manifestation is unlocked.
Righteous Enforcement Unlocking this will raise Haru Absconditus’ standard skill level by one and decrease its cooldown and S-Energy consumption.
Virtuous Pursuit The final manifestation will increase Haru Absconditus’ damage based on how low the enemy’s HP is when in her “Body as Blade” state.

As seen in the table above, Haru Absconditus’ manifestation unlocks will make her perform a decent bit better. However, they are not necessary for her to be a good unit. It is recommended to grind for these manifestations when willing, but it is not a major priority and players should instead focus on her equipment.

Haru Absconditus Weapon Guide

As previously mentioned throughout the guide, Haru Absconditus is a unit that uses pistols. It is recommended to equip Haru specifically with a pistol that deals kinetic damage, as doing so will provide her standard skill with additional damage and movement speed. There are various kinetic pistols available in Snowbreak: Containment Zone, so this guide will cover the most relevant to Haru Absconditus specifically.

Haru Absconditus’ signature weapon is called “16-Psyche” and is available from the limited weapon banner running alongside the banner for her unit. This orange-tier kinetic pistol increases kinetic damage and attack via an effect known as “corrosion effect.” The weapon will also increase skill damage upon using an ultimate, which synergizes extremely well with how Haru Absconditus’ ultimate skill already buffs her standard skill damage and cooldown.

If players do not have the currency to pull for “16-Psyche” or otherwise do not want to, Amazing Seasun games was very generous with this patch and provides players with Haru Absconditus’ best purple-tier weapon completely free if willing to grind. As previously mentioned, the currently running Fogbound Dream event is very important to building Haru Absconditus as this is where the grind for the free weapon will take place. Players interested in obtaining the free weapon should complete the stages of the event under the “Pursuing Embers” section until they can claim the weapon, called “Wild Wasp Stinger.”

The purple-tier weapon recommended for Haru Absconditus, “Wild Wasp Stinger,” is a yellow and black kinetic pistol reminiscent of a wasp’s hive. The weapon’s passive “Buzzing Diffusal” will give Haru an attack increase when she continuously uses the same skill, and this is referred to as the “Hive effect.” The hive effect is very synergistic with the rest of Haru Absconditus’ kit as she is a very standard skill-heavy character who will frequently be using continuous standard skills.

If the event has already ended and players were not able to earn the “Wild Wasp Stinger” gun, the second-best option is going to be the purple-tier kinetic pistol known as “Yojimbo.” This weapon is available as part of Snowbreak: Containment Zone’s battle pass system, and it provides Haru Absconditus with a large base skill damage boost.

Haru Absconditus Logistics Guide

When it comes to the logistics used by Haru Absconditus, her best option is also currently available via the Fogbound Dream event. The orange-tier logistics are called Akitsu Squad and provide a large skill damage boost as their two-piece set bonus and a new stackable mechanic called “Golden Osmanthus” for their three-piece set bonus. The “Golden Osmanthus” stacks can be earned by using skills, and they will provide an attack increase and kinetic damage increase.

For players who may miss out on the as-of-now event exclusive logistics, there is still hope for building Haru Absconditus. The orange-tier logistics that are recommended in this scenario are Thebes Squad, and they are permanent and grindable logistics. Thebes Squad will provide Haru Absconditus with a skill damage boost for their two-piece set bonus, and an attack buff every time a skill hits an enemy for their three-piece set bonus.

If players have not yet unlocked the ability to grind for orange-tier logistics or have otherwise been unlucky in their RNG, the purple-tier logistics that will benefit Haru Absconditus the most are Elven Squad. Elven Squad provides players with increased skill damage with their two-piece set bonus and increased kinetic damage with their three-piece set bonus.

Haru Absconditus is a very powerful skill-heavy operative who can control the battlefield through various means of crowd control and assassination, and if built correctly, she promises to be a worthy damage unit for most players. It is highly recommended that players pull for her if they are currently lacking a good damage-oriented operative, and players should remember to grind the Fogbound Dream event to the best of their ability. Even if players do not currently intend on pulling for Haru Absconditus, the event reward pistol and logistics squad are recommended to grind for in order to have all bases covered should they benefit other operatives in the future or should players pull Haru Absconditus during a potential rerun banner.

Snowbreak: Containment Zone is now available on Mobile and PC.
